Outdoor Portrait Photography Meetup

Outdoor Portrait Photography Meetup

Sunday 30 June
Winter Park - 9am - 2 Hours
Michael Wacht
We, as photographers, are called many times to do outdoor portrait work. Studios can be expensive or may not be available, clients may want an on-location shots, or you're shooting at an outdoor event. Whatever the reason, it's good to know how to see and control outdoor natural light in order to get the best portrait photos. This class will cover outdoor lighting and some basics of working with a model/subject.

This is an advanced portrait meetup. I recommend you take the Beginners Class first to learn manual mode and composition. Also, it would be helpful to complete the Introduction to Portrait Photography meetup, too, though not required.

Sunday 14 July
Downtown Sanford, Florida - 9am - 2 Hours
Michael Wacht
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer's gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle nor telephoto lens but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we'll review the basic camera settings. We'll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques for using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

This was an excellent class and very welcoming for true beginners. I walked into the class not even understanding the settings in my camera but left with the knowledge and confidence to adjust settings effectively for a desired effect. Mike is quite knowledgeable and also a great teacher, I will definitely be signing up for additional classes with him!

I consider myself an intermediate photographer, but took the beginning class because I always believe there is something new to be learned. Mike was great and provided good information. Some of it was refresher information for me, but he also provided information and recommendations that I hadn't learned before that proved to be very helpful. The location was great for the class and it really felt like I had solid one on one time with him.

    Michael Wacht
Mike has more than 40 years' experience behind the camera, a good deal of that as a professional. A bulk of his work has been as a photojournalist and documentary photographer. This storytelling style informs his other work as an event, portrait/headshot, and travel photographer. Mike traveled in 2003 to Angola, Africa to document the postwar church, documented relief efforts after the 2004 hurricane season, and shot an outdoor wedding next to a glacier in Alaska. Mike holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Washington & Lee University and a master's in strategic communications from Purdue University. He lives in Orlando with his five rescued dogs.

Thus, we made the decision to take the children to the park, and on a whim, we decided to capture the moment with a photo s
